For years I have been wondering, been losing sleep, thinking about something that seems to be growing ever more prominent in my life.

My dad's girlfriend, Leslie, has a brother. This brother has been married/joined with one particular woman for I don't know how long. This man had no contact with his girlfriend's family. About maybe a couple of months ago, this woman said she was pregnant. For weeks, we wondered. The due date was always switching around. We never really knew anything about the baby. This child was invisible.

Yesterday, I found out that she had lied. There was never any baby. This woman had been compulsively lying for her whole life, and Leslie's brother never knew, because he had no contact with her family. Now his life is in shambles.

Why do people do these things? Is there something specific you are missing out on, something that gives you the reason to lie, gives you a reason to deceive? What is wrong with people now-a-days??
